In Spanish calafate and michay and other names, Berberis microphylla, common name box-leaved barberry and Magellan barberry, is an evergreen shrub, with flat, shiny box-like leaves. The calafate is a symbol of Patagonia and is native to southern Argentina and Chile. The bush grows to 1.0 to 1.5 m tall.
