A Venus flytrap is a plant that eats bugs. It has leaves that look like mouths with teeth. When a bug lands on a leaf, the leaf snaps shut and traps the bug inside. Then the plant digests the bug and gets nutrients from it.

You can grow a Venus flytrap from a seed. Here is how you do it:
  1. You need soil that is made of peat moss and sand. Peat moss is a kind of dirt that comes from wet places. Sand is tiny rocks that you find at the beach. You mix them together in a bowl.
  2. You need a container that has holes on the bottom and on the top. The holes let water and air go in and out. You can use a plastic box or a pot with a plastic bag over it.
  3. You put the soil in the container and make it wet with water. You should use water that has no minerals in it, like distilled water or bottled water. Tap water has minerals that can hurt the plant.
  4. You sprinkle the seeds on top of the soil. You do not bury them under the soil. You cover them with a very thin layer of peat moss dust. This helps them stay moist and warm.
  5. You put the container in a place that gets a lot of sunlight and is warm. The seeds need to be at least 78 degrees Fahrenheit (26 degrees Celsius) to grow. They will start to sprout in 10 to 15 days if they have enough heat and light.
  6. You keep the soil moist by watering it from below. You put the container in a dish of water and let the soil soak up the water. You do not spray water on the leaves because it can make them rot.
  7. You wait for your Venus flytrap to grow bigger and stronger. It will take a few months for it to become an adult plant that can eat bugs.
That is how you grow a Venus flytrap from a seed. It is fun to watch them grow and catch bugs with their leaves.
