Dahlia, a genus of Mexican-born, has bushy, tuberous, herbal characteristics. As a part of the Asteraceae family, the sunflower, daisy, chrysanthemum, and zinnia are therefore part of their family relatives. There are 42 Dahlia species, with common hybrids cultivated as plants in the garden.

Planting Instructions:

1. Prepare the potting soil by mixing in peat moss, perlite, and compost.
2. Fill the pot with the soil mixture and water it thoroughly until it is moist but not soggy.
3. Place the Dahlia seeds on top of the moistened soil and cover them with a thin layer of soil or vermiculite to keep them from drying out while they are germinating.
4. Keep the pot in a warm place (65-75 degrees Fahrenheit) until you see sprouts coming up through the surface of the soil or vermiculite, which can take anywhere from 2-6 weeks depending on your climate
