The luffa gourd is an annual tropical or subtropical climbing vine. When the fruit section of the plant is ripe, it can be used as an organic bath or kitchen sponge. Some people are even using the juice of this very beneficial plant to treat jaundice.
Growing luffa plants is a very enjoyable project, but not one for the impatient. Luffa is cold sensitive and takes a long time to mature into a dry sponge, so if you don't have the patience to wait, you shouldn't try luffa gourd planting.
