Desert rose has become a common ornamental garden plant in zones 10 to 11 in the United States Department of Agriculture. The rest of us in cooler zones will have to resort to growing Adenium indoors, giving the plant a summer vacation on the patio or deck. Desert rose plant care can be complicated and requires some knowledge of the species' life cycle.
Adeniums are tropical, succulent plants. Since they grow a caudex, or swollen trunk, they are distinctive between class. A pleasant, fat trunk is a plant health indicator. A skinny stem may mean that more moisture is required for the plant.
