While all lavender (Lavandula) is Mediterranean native, there are several varieties offering a large range of bloom times, colours, floral shapes , and sizes. "Bloom time can vary drastically between different locations — where one lavender blooms in early June, it may be a very different outcome just 20 miles away," says Kristin Nielsen, president of the Western Colorado Lavender Association.
Lavender is a perennial, which can last under the right conditions for many years. Lavender enjoys blazing hot sun and dry soil, regardless of its Mediterranean roots. If your lavender is not growing, it's most likely due to overwatering, too much shade and high levels of humidity.
