Winterberry (Ilex verticillata) is a holly deciduous native to east North America. Its showy red berries during the winter provide a feast for birds and other wildlife — but remember that only the fertilized female plants grow berries, so keep a male in the region too. Winterberry makes an ideal base plant or hedge.
