Sunflowers is an annual plant with a large daisy-like flower face (Helianthus annuus). The Greek words helios ("sun") and anthos ("flora") give their scientific names. The flowers, however, are usually light yellow with the middle of brunette that matures in the noisy heads full of seeds (black, red, orange, maroon or brown).
Most sunflower varieties blooms in just 85 to 95 days, as their flora grows very quickly. The largest varieties of sunflower grow to more than 16 feet in height and smaller varieties for small spaces and containers, rarely grow larger than one foot! In the specific seed varieties, the flower heads can reach a diameter of more than 12 inches.
