Astilbe Arendsii is perfect for border or shady bed. It is a midsummer bloomer that goes well with the planting of hostas, ferns, and other shade. Astilbe do best in moist (not wet) soils. They demand rich soil mixed in with lots of compost or humus. In the north they do best with more sun than shade in part shade and in the south they do best in more shade than sun. They aren't full shade plants because without adequate light, they won't flower well. They will grow into green clumps but flower poorly under poor light conditions.
