Most Japanese maples grow from 1 to 2 feet per year at a slow to moderate rate. They usually grow faster when young and slow as it matures. When it comes to lighting, too much light can damage leaves which are delicate. Too little, and leaves might stay in a greenish tone. Maples need a location with part-day sun or at least high light for the best color.
